Location: Glastonbury, Somerset

Client: Private

Project Type / Sector: Remodelling of an existing bungalow

Year: 2009

Planning permission was received for extensive alterations and remodelling of this bungalow in the open countryside of North Wootton. The clients purchased the property in 2009 as part of successful ‘Greenacres Campsite’ that is listed in the Cool Camping Guide and is used for Glastonbury Festival campers. The clients have a large family and so five extra bedrooms were designed into the first floor extensions. All sleeping accommodation is now on the first floor and all living and working areas are on the ground floor. The construction took place on a fast track programme and was completed on time in 2010. The project was short listed in the Homebuilding & Renovating magazine awards. We have now become bungalow remodel specialists!

Client: Private

Project: Self Build House

Year: 2011

A new build sustainable home comes out of the ground.

Detailed Planning Consent was granted in 2010 for a three storey, four bedroom family house. The site is in a great location situated on the edge of a village in the Mendips, with picturesque views of the countryside. Construction works are progressing well on site with the new eco house being built on a fast track timber frame programme.

Local clay roof tiles, natural stone and larch cladding from the nearby Stourhead estate are being used. Recycled newspaper will be used for the thermal insulation and together with other energy efficiency devices a Code 4 Sustainable Home has been achieved in the SAP calculations. The aim is to complete a Passive House through high air tightness standards.

The self build house is in a great location situated on the edge of a village in the Mendips, with picturesque views of the countryside. The garage was completed first to provide a bat house to satisfy one of the many Planning Conditions. The bats have now been carefully moved into the heated loft space over the garage and the existing farmhouse demolished. Phase two works and the construction of the new house have commenced are proceeding well on a fast track timber frame programme. Local clay roof tiles, natural stone and larch cladding from the nearby Stourhead estate are being used. Recycled newspaper will be used for the thermal insulation and together with other energy efficiency devices a Code 4 Sustainable Home has been achieved in the SAP calculations.
