Location: Stoke St Michael, Somerset

Client: Private

Type: Residential Conversion

Year: 2011

The conversion of a chapel into an Architect’s dream home – a life long ambition recently completed.

A huge three storey high open plan space gave us a blank canvas for the interior design. The challenge was to get the right balance to accommodate noisy family life whilst retaining the drama and features of the chapel which could be used as an office. The juxtaposition of open and closed space also gave us an exciting basis to mix traditional with contemporary design, in a sensitive yet dynamic manner.

Winner of a Green Apple Award for preserving our architectural heritage and making a positive contribution to the built environment. Selected as an exemplar project by the RIBA Sector Reviews.

Location: Lansdown, Bath

Client: Private

Project: Residential Extension

Year: 2008

An existing extension was replaced and incorporated into the remodelling of the existing small and separate kitchen and dining room. The large chimney and separating wall was removed to create one large open plan family kitchen and dining space as the hub of the house – with a new wine cellar.

Conservation rooflights, timber windows and patio doors provide extra natural light and open up the Edwardian house into the garden. A small and dark kitchen has been transformed into a large contemporary space that meets the needs of a modern family and satisfies the strict requirements of a Conservation Area in Bath. Required a good working relationship with BANES Council. Featured in a number of kitchen design magazines. Kitchen fittings supplied and fitted by the Bath Kitchen Company.
