Location: Stoke St Michael, Somerset

Client: MJW Architects

Project Type / Sector: Office Conversion

Year: 2006

Award winning sustainable conversion of a former Sunday School annexe to an Old Chapel into house and offices for mjwarchitects.

The space has been opened up and a mezzanine added to give extra floor area, increased head height and a three dimensional space. Internally the juxtaposition of open plan versus cellular space gives an exciting design to live and work, mixing traditional with contemporary, in a sensitive yet dynamic manner. Local sourced recycled materials, such as oak timber flooring, gives an eco friendly office that together with underfloor heating is cost effective to construct and run.

Winner of the 2006 Green Apple Award for Heritage and Sustainability run by the Green Organisation and selected as an exemplar project by the RIBA Sector Reviews 2006.

Location: Weston-super-Mare

Client: Urban Splash

Project Type / Sector: Architectural Competition

Year: 2007

Our entry for an RIBA design competition run by Urban Splash for the re-development of Birnbeck Island off the coast of Weston-super-Mare.

The redundant pier and island has listed buildings on it and was once a popular tourist attraction.

Our concept was to bring the island back to life by providing retail, spa and commercial premises on the ground deck with short stay living accommodation above in a beach hut style simplicity design.
