Whilst planning legalisation is changing to allow larger domestic extensions not requiring Planning Permission note that even permitted development requires Permitted Development Approval from your Local Planning Authority. We recommend that you seek advice from a local architect to establish if Planning Permission is required and the type of application applicable – Outline Planning Permission, Detailed Planning Permission, Listed Building Consent or Conservation Area Approval. Further information can be found on the governments Planning Portal web site.

Most new buildings or major changes to existing buildings or to the local environment need consent – known as planning permission. Without a planning system everyone could construct buildings or use land in any way they wanted, no matter what effect this would have on other people who live and work in their area.
