A zero carbon sustainable home in Somerset of high quality contemporary design that respects the woodland and streamside setting. The plan is split into a sleeping wing and a living wing, connected by a glass box. This breaks down the mass of the building and frames views of the trees and stream. Uncultivated gardens, surrounding wildflower meadows and grassland roof blend well, also providing habitat and enhancing biodiversity. Timber wall cladding and corrugated tin roofing follow the local agricultural vernacular. This sustainable design with a rich and varied pallet of materials ensured permission by planning appeal for a new house in the open countryside outside development limits.
